ClearbillIndependent product

Understand why your household costs changed — and what to do next.

Clearbill is an interactive product concept for turning changes in recurring household costs into explanations and actions.

Clearbill overview explaining that household costs increased by €47 this month

01 · The idea

Showing the number isn’t the same as explaining it.

If an electricity bill jumps from €60 to €91, the useful questions aren’t just “how much?”

They’re:

Why did it change?
Did the price change?
Did my usage change?
When?

Clearbill answers those questions first, then lets the user inspect the underlying data.

02 · From explanation to action

The explanation should lead somewhere.

For the demo household, Clearbill turns:

€31 electricity increase
usage +18%
price unchanged
most extra use happened in the evening

into two next steps:

Estimate next bill

See how changing usage affects the projected cost.

Set an alert

Get warned when the projected bill crosses a chosen threshold.

03 · What I’d test next

Does the explanation actually help?

This is an unvalidated prototype. The next step would be testing three things:

Comprehension

Can people correctly explain why the bill changed?

Trust

Do they see enough evidence to believe the explanation?

Actionability

Does forecasting or an alert help them decide what to do?
